Approach
Amelia Scanlan
I am a Humanistic and Integrative psychotherapist-in-training, which means I use different approaches depending on what works best for the client.
I work relationally, exploring your early and current relationships with others, and utilising the relationship between us to explore responses and patterns that may be present.
I carefully consider the impact of race, gender, sexuality, socio-economic status, and other aspects of a person to explore their experience of the world. I am passionate about working anti-oppressively and I am queer and ASD friendly.
My training includes somatic psychotherapy; a modality grounded in the mind-body connection. I collaboratively draw attention to what the body's responses could be telling us about your emotions and experiences.
I believe all people have the capacity to grow and flourish, given the right environment and I offer a safe, compassionate space for you to talk through your feelings without judgement. I will be alongside you while we explore these together.
I am a member of UKCP and abide by their code of ethics.

Experience
Amelia Scanlan
I have had 4 years' experience as a psychotherapist-in-training in my private practice, as well as a placement with those who have experienced abuse in childhood. Alongside my private practice, I am a therapist for refugees and asylum seekers with Solace.
Previously, I gained 17 years' experience working for local and national charities supporting adults, children and families around sexual and domestic violence, mental health, adoption, self harm, managing suicidal feelings, and those affected by trafficking and exploitation. I have run several groups specific to sexuality and gender, and I have supported people from many cultures and religions in the UK, as well as working overseas.
